This one was a twofer for bad directions. I spent an hour yesterday looking for another peak and while the author’s directions to the start of this hike were easy to follow, it was poorly chosen. Usually guide books try to keep you from traveling off the trail, but “Head NW across the desert” are the very first directions for this trail. But according to the sun and my truck compass, he meant North across the desert because NW sent me to the wrong wash (choice of three that was not mentioned) which I didn’t realize until I was on my way back. I ended up following a mountain sheep trail up the backside of the peak in the end which was scary at a couple of points and I’m not sure whether I went to the correct peak. But it was the highest of the two!!
