Posted by on August 12, 2013

60 Hikes within 60 miles: denver and boulder” by Kim Lipker

Castlewood Canyon is the northmost portions of the Black Forest.  Largely surrounded by grassland, the canyon is home to dam ruins.  The Inner Canyon Loop takes hikers through a lush corridor where ponderosa pines thrive along Cherry creek as it flows to Denver.  There are 12 miles of hiking trails in Castlewood Canyon State Park…

Length: 1.8 miles

Configuration: Loop

Exposure: Little shade

Difficulty: Easy

Hiking Time: 1 Hour

6400-6600 feet

My Stats

Total Distance: 1.82 miles round trip

Time: 43:08 Minutes

Elevation: 6,066 to 6,277 ft

Elevation Gain: 285 ft

I love this place and am planning to spend some more time here in the future.  Cholo had a great time here as well.

Directions suck again.  It’s 5 miles to Franktown after the turn midway from Castle Rock.
