Some hikers belittle Gem Lake for its picayunish size and piddling depth, ranking it as a semi-precious gem among the royal collection of lakes that grace the park. But this is pure slander, for what it lacks in size it makes up for in beauty, and the trail takes you up Lumpy Ridge through some of the most varies scenery in the park – all for a mere 2-mile effort.
