Hiking Southern Nevada

By Branch Whitney and Huntington Press

Lake Mead Area – Northern Hikes

Distance: 5.2 mile round trip

Elevation Change:    100 feet

Difficulty:    1

The trail follows the right-of-way of a railroad built in 1931 to bring supplies for the construction Hoover Dam. Part of the trail was used in the film The Gauntlet for a scene in the Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke, riding a motorcycle, are being chased by a helicopter.

Nice easy hike with views of Lake Mead and tunnels. I’ve never saw Lake Mead this color before.
