Larimer County: Devil’s Backbone Trail

Posted by on June 7, 2011

“60 Hikes within 60 miles: denver and boulder” by Kim Lipker

The Devil’s Backbone is a small section of the hogbacks found up and down the Front Range.  The hogbacks are remnant of an ancient exposed seafloor that has been honed by the elements over thousands of years.  It’s an easy, well maintained trail right outside of Loveland on the way to Estes Park.

Length: 3.48 miles

Difficulty: Easy

Hiking Time: 2 hour

5000-5100 feet

This was a very nice hike.  I wanted to go for 5 miles so I added another loop to the suggested hike.  One of the other hikers mentioned that a cougar/mountain lion was spotted nearby.
