Mount Falcon Partial Castle Trail and Summer White House Trail

This is the opposite end of the last trail from the west trailhead.

I wanted another 6 miles, but I didn’t know AllTrails gives you round-trip distances for out and back hikes with this trail; it does, so I only went a little over 3 miles. This was the complete opposite experience of the last trail as there was a slight decline starting the trail you had to climb up on the way back.  I could have gone longer, but I apperantly give my feet time to heal and my heel blister started up again.  So it ended up being just the right length.

The views were better than the last one and there were plans to build a Winter White House for the president at the top.  Who knew?

Here’s the stats for this trip:

  • Distance: 3.69 miles
  • Time: 1:18:50 minutes
  • Avg Speed: 2.8 mph
  • Starting Elevation: 7,732 ft
  • Elevation Gain: 525 ft

Mount Falcon Turkey Trot and Partial Castle Trail

AllTrails offered me 50% off and I decided to give it a try.  It already found me a great trail I didn’t know about.

The turkey Trot trail is pretty steep for the first 3/4 of a mile, but flattens out a little with some shade. I wanted a 6 mile trail, so I continued going up to the end of Two Dog Trail.  I was pretty much a zombie once I hit the Two Dog Trail, but I made it all the way.  It did wipe me out for the rest of the day.

Here’s the stats for this trip:

  • Distance: 5.68 miles
  • Time: 2:29:30 minutes
  • Avg Speed: 2.3 mph
  • Starting Elevation: 6,042 ft
  • Elevation Gain: 2,372 ft

William Frederick Hayden Park – Rooney Valley Trail – Finished!

William F. Hayden Park on Green Mountain offers a challenging system of multiple-use trails for all abilities. The trails tend to dry earlier than many of the foothills parks, making the park a fantastic winter destination.

I was finally able to finish all the trails on the mountain.  I thought it would be 4 miles, but it turned into six.  A little aggressive for the first hike of the season, but I made it to the end.  My feet aren;t happy, though! 🙂

Here’s the stats for this trip:

  • Distance: 5.73 miles
  • Time: 2:08:19 minutes
  • Avg Speed: 2.7 mph
  • Starting Elevation: 6,104 ft
  • Elevation Gain: 1,007 ft

Google made a panorama for me.

Cameron Falls, NWT

This was a another 2+km hike about 45 minutes outside of Yellowknife.  It was nice and easy with a couple of 100 ft elevation gains.

I waded into the creek above the falls and put one of my socks back on.  When I went to put the second sock on, I noticed a bunch of black mud or debris on my foot.  Then I noticed that they really looked like tiny moving worms. LEECHES.  EWWW!. I immediately brushed them off without thinking, then thought.  Damn I should have taken a picture. Then I remembered the other foot.  But is was leech free. I wanted to go back in to get the shot, but Lina wouldn’t let me.

Prelude Lake Nature Trail – Yellowknife, NWT

Lina and I went on a hike to Prelude Lake.  A 2.2km Hike about 30 minutes outside of Yellowknife, NWT. This was a nice leisurely hike with some great views and different terrain.

I spotted a black bear and a cub on our drive there.
