Beatrice, Nebraska

Beatrice, Nebraska

Beatrice, Nebraska is the stereotype of small town America.  A very cute little town with a very interesting history. A couple of stories from the local museum include:

In 1906 they had a auto manufacturer who designed, built, and sold a car with a two-cycle engine with only 6 moving parts.

Sometime in the 60s, one of the biggest plants burned completely to the ground. In less than sixty days the plant was rebuilt by the employees of the plant and fully functional with no government money.  Imagine that happening today.

Some of the first pioneers of x-ray technology were from Beatrice.  Apparently, one of the doctors read about the discovery of x-rays and built his own x-ray machine and experimented with it. They had a couple of pictures with 3 or 4 men standing around what looked like a light bulb hovering above one of the men’s hand. I assume the light bulb produced the x-rays which must have flown in all directions (through all the men) because there didn’t appear to be any shielding or method to reflect the rays.

One of the best local museums I’ve ever been to can be found here!

I took some pictures of interesting houses, but my camera seems to have eaten them
