Lake Mead Area – Southern Hkes

Distance: 7.0 miles

Elevation Change:    1,020 feet

Difficulty:    3

Danger Level:    3

 

Overview:   The route follows a west-traveling wash, then circles and follows an east-traveling wash.

 

Comments:    The hike offers great vistas of Lake Mead.  You’ll climb a total of eight dry falls and descend one during the hike.  keep an eye out for bighorn sheep.

I think the guy was on crack when he wrote the directions for this hike. The directions for this trail are mostly useless and all of the pictures used to as guides were mirror images of reality causing me to make a couple of unnecessary climbs.  I was completely shocked to see some bighorn sheep.

I almost died a couple of times trying to climb down the cliff face shown below when handhold and footholds crumbled during my descent.  After getting over the almost plummeting off the cliff, the climb was quite enjoyable, though.
