Homestead National Monument
May 2004
In the second half of the 1800’s, the US government surveyed a large part of the prairies and would give plots of land to anyone who registered their plot, maintained a residence on the plot, and improved the land in some way for a number of years. Homestead National Monument was built around one of the first homestead plots registered. It was an interesting, but short, hike through the prairies.
