Rim Trail

Distance:         12.0 miles one way

The most popular walking path at the South Rim is…Rim trail which runs along the edge of the canyon from the first overlook on Desert View Drive to Hermits Rest.  This walk, which is paved to Maricopa point, allows visits to several of the South Rim’s historic landmarks.

November 2004

This started out as a nice, comfortable, paved trail along and a safe distance from the South Rim and slowly transformed into a tiny hard to find path running, at times, at the edge of the rim.  It’s a great little trail in the off-season but I would hate to be there in peak season because it’s not very wide. (four abreast at best) The view did tend to get monotonous after looking at the same features for several hours but it was nice to bail out at any time and catch the shuttle to the lodges for some hot chocolate or dinner at the Bright Angel cafe.
