Trip 13 – Whale Rock trail

Distance:                 1.2 miles round trip

Elevation Change:    5710/5850 feet

Difficulty:                Easy

Hazards:                  Sections of scrambling over steep and exposed slickrock

Introduction:    To appreciate the dimensions of unusual Upheaval Dome, and in the process enjoy a slickrock scramble from the mesa to a broad sandstone dome, the short trip to Whale Rock offers ample rewards for a little effort.  Although parts of the route along the steep slickrock slopes of the dome are exposed, handrails offer a sense of security for novice hikers.
