Trip 14 – Crater View / Upheaval Dome Overlook Trails

Distance:                 1.8 miles round trip

Elevation Change:    5650/5800 feet

Suited For:               Walk

Difficulty:                Moderately Easy

Hazards:                  Steep Drop-offs; no water; little shade;

                               overlooks subject to lightning strikes

Introduction:    This short but rewarding trail is one of the most popular hike in the Island District.  It tours the south rim of unusual Upheaval Dome, offering not only dramatic views into its jumbled and eroded interior but also far-reaching vistas over canyons and mesas to lofty mountain ranges.
